My first quilting class ever! Have always wanted to learn how to piece quilt- was a bucket list item for me. Picking out fabric- forget my old ideas of matching! Sewing a straight stitch was no problem- keeping it at 1/4” was a challenge without a quarter inch presser foot! Learned how to machine quilt with simple crosshatch design. Binding? Oh my! I completed one placemat but purchased enough fabric for two. I’m sure I’ll find a good use for it! I was hooked when I joined and pressed two pieces of different fabric. I went into this adventure not knowing anyone - and I wasn’t sure if the new people I met would accept a lesbian. What I found was a warm and welcoming shop owner, staff, instructor, and a host of others just like me; we were all pursuing our love for quilting and the other stuff I worried about never came to pass. I now have a totally new set of friends all from quilting. I join the local guild and offer to be the greeter for our monthly meeting. Quilting has opened so many doors for to continue to learn not just quilting but other novel items as well. I wish I had started this long ago- but I’m glad I waited because of the people I have met.
