Journal Notes

As a typical new quilter, I spent the first year picking up one yard here, one yard there, and precuts without a real plan. (Advising against doing this would be my first tip to a new quilter. Also, “avoid pinked edges!”) I also didn’t understand fabric quality yet but I’m not unhappy with how this turned out. Actually, I’m quite pleased! I made 5 quilt tops in August 2023 with the express purpose of getting these old impulse buys out of my stash and this one is a favorite. I went for a black and green theme, feeling that was a bit rustic like an old ski lodge. The blocks remind me of rows of skis with their sharp tips. I didn’t finish right away because I had my heart set on a black and green buffalo plaid border. After an online fabric was a total miss, I found what I was looking for locally in a shop I’d never visited. I had to fussy cut it so it wouldn’t look wonky. Love it and it stayed on my bed past Christmas season. E2E pattern - candy canes
