The start of this project is with JGIDQ SB #04: The Queen, a bargello quilt. Plans change. Originally, I had a row in the bargello quilt that was from a sarong. As I began to attach the columns I realized immediately that a stretchy fabric was a BAD idea. With a small sigh I got out the seam ripper and removed it thinking “what a waste.” But why waste it? If life gives you lemons, as they say, or limes in this case because of the lime green color… While I worked on Purple Terrace, I grabbed leftover strips from the bargello and added them to the pieces of sarong as leaders and enders. Once one side was done I ironed the seams and started down the other side. Since the scrap pieces were all different sizes, and since I just started adding other scraps as I went along the pieces became vastly different sizes but I didn’t care. I assumed I would use on the back somewhere or as pillows. As the pile grew, though, and as I cut more fabric strips to finish the blocks, I realized this was more than a back or pillows. I was still amazed at the end product when I laid them all out - enough for a small throw! I will supplement with a few more blocks to have enough and use sashing to even up block sizes. (White or black?!). I love it!
