My niece asked me to make a quilt for her brother from the ties she had from her late dad and grandfather. It was a surprise. I was able to gift it to my nephew at a family reunion. Having never made a quilt like this, I did some research and ended up using lightweight interfacing to use as the blocks’ bases. I disassembled the ties and cut into 1.5-2” strips. Then I just randomly sewed them to the interfacing, starting at the middle of the blocks and working my way out to the edges. I had some cotton print similar to a man’s shirt that I used for the sashing. I was very pleased with the final product.
