My Mom has dementia. She wanted to assist with a quilt for her great granddaughters graduation. She went through her fabrics and we decided on a the bird fabric. Although it could have been completed fairly quickly as a “whole cloth” project the color between the birds was red and Ella’s favorite color is lavender. I cut apart all the 8” squares leaving a 1/4” seam allowance. This project came together rather quickly. 24 hours. Next step is to sandwich the quilt (I use basting spray) and begin quilting. I did straight stitching on all but the outer border. I used the walking foot for the center of the quilt using the edges of the foot as my spacing guide. I also used the walking foot for stitch in the ditch on the next two narrow borders. It was free motion quilting to put on the “feathers” (this was my first time doing this stitch) I drew on 1/2 of the feathers and free formed 1/2. I found drawing all the “vine” portion easier to follow with it drawn on. I used “pebbles” for a filler at the edge of the feathers.
