The Quilt Show BOM This has been… challenging because of my skill level. I jumped right in with very little knowledge of quilting., but it’s been an amazing experience that I’m so glad I started with. A cousin told me to start simple, but looking back, I don’t think that has ever been how I started anything. At first, maybe the first six, I watched the videos and had to get on YouTube and look up vocabulary and concepts just to understand. I realized about month six, that while my skills were still a work in progress, I didn’t need to watch videos to understand the “quilting language.” I’m glad I chose to learn from this designer because I learned so much that I see carrying over into my other projects. Fabric was chosen as my husband and I traveled: took the fabric requirement sheet and matched fabrics. Next time, I’ll write down where I bought the fabrics. 😁 But, I love all the fabrics I chose. I really enjoyed learning from Lynn Wilder and Barbara Black. I realized several times during the year, that I was doing something in some other project because I learned something from them. Challenges: my biggest learning opportunities. 😊 1. My inexperienced skill level 2. Matching points 3. Making flying geese 4. Making HST - multiples at a time 5. Piecing into 5.5” blocks 6. Matching colors 7. Some blocks not big enough so I had to make more or the colors didn’t look right once on the wall with other blocks so had to remake. Borders- mitered Quilting: I chose to free motion and use rulers because I wanted the center to be different. I began learning from Angela Walter’s and Natalia Bonner- I used rulers purchased from them. Binding: the label was embroidered into the binding with gold Glide thread.
