I was walking through the quilt store and saw this fat quarter with alphabets. I love alphabet quilts. So I bought the fat quarter not knowing what I was going to do with it. No pattern, no colors just the fat quarter. Then one night I grabbed from my stash all the colors that were in this fat quarter and thought of doing a simple nine patch. There’s the pattern, there’s the fabric. As I was making the quilt, I knew I wanted some sashing in White so the blocks would stand out. Added little colorful cornerstones in the sashing. And when it came to the outer border of White, I ran out of white fabric. So I had some little pieces of the colorful blocks left over and made a little band in the middle of each of the four sides of the outer border. Here’s where the story gets interesting. I made this quilt top with no plans other than it would make a great donation quilt someday 2 years ago. My niece‘s friend was expecting baby number four and did not know the gender. So I dug through my finish quilt tops and found this one to be gender neutral. The family loves being outdoors, so the bumblebees for the backing was perfect. Bright and sunny. And I found the perfect pastel rainbow striped binding. The quilting was done with different colors of thread just to have some fun and baby. Ezra is enjoying his new quilt.
