This was a really challenging piece. The design was placed on a panel but only had a tonal value change from light to dark and you had to decide what to put where. I looked at petals but confused myself on determining the look I wanted. Also, varying the shades was so darn tricky. This was a bigger for me and took me almost two full years to complete it because I was so unhappy with how it was turning out so I set it aside until I could tackle it again. Once it was finished, again deciding on quilting was another challenge for me. I went with the same swirls I did on the lighthouse because I wanted it completed so I could enter it into the show. I had three quilts I was working on and had to decide on which I was entering. Next I had to figure out the mounts. Last year when I submitted my flamingo, I was unhappy with their hanging board which bowed so it looked crooked to me whenever I saw it. With this one I sewed a yardstick on both the top and bottom edges to keep straight.
