I never thought I’d hand piece a quilt, much less sew hexagons and diamonds. Yet, most evenings I find myself slow stitching these pieces, and many mornings I’d cut and baste a set or two before work. Every part of this process is enjoyable for me, choosing the fabrics, cutting and basting the templates, using the simple whip stitch to sew them together. I especially like the scrappy aspect and each block is different. The challenge at the end of year one is setting the blocks into a cohesive look. I used two navy diamonds that don’t match the rest of the color palette from a tumbling block quilt my grandma started and was never able to finish. I am seriously thinking of hand quilting this.
