I am currently playing Glinda in a local theater production of The Wizard of Oz. The theater is a nonprofit that brings hope to individuals going through cancer treatments. A portion of the proceeds and donations are given to one nominated person for each show and those donations are given to this person on closing night. The cast and crew also give gifts to show their love. I have heard that cancer treatments can be cold so I am making them a quilt to hopefully give them some comfort and warmth while they are in treatment. I chose the phrase “There’s no place like home” for several reasons but the two most prominent in my mind is 1) because cancer patients have to spend a lot of time away from home and this quilt is meant to help them feel not so far from home, and 2) I hope they will come to think of their Wizard of Oz family as a little piece of home.
