August 22 is a day that I won’t ever forget. August 22 was “Quilt Day” for my dad. Swipe left to see pics from the journey, along with the letter to my dad about his quilt.🪡🧵 I started his quilt almost a year ago. It is a pattern called “Box Quilt” that my grandma Verla (his mom) designed on a piece of paper with pencil and made her patterns from sandpaper. My cousin Amy @amyharpe saved the pattern and gave it to me last year, but it took a journey to bring “Box Quilt” to life. As most of my quilts go, I had help and encouragement from my sewing bee 🐝 my Kansas Girls @whatevercrafthouse 🌈 a class “Y-Seams on the Sewing Machine”taught by @srbracelin at @themqg at Quiltcon in Raleigh, along with a classroom full of students, and my ever so patient longarmer @dogpatchquilting7699. I wrote Dad a 5 page letter about the quilt journey and didn’t disclose the pattern designer until about halfway through…when I was able to show him his mom’s pattern and sandpaper pieces. He had to stand up and go get Kleenex before continuing to read. It made my day when he told me it “was the best gift he had ever gotten”. This is why we sew. 😊🥳 I am so grateful for @club_hauer @club.hauer my FAVORITE fabric designer…for the incredible fabric! This is my third finished quilt with their fabric from @freespiritfabrics I hope to be able to learn @theelectricquiltcompany EQ8 to make Verla’s Box Quilt into a pattern in the near future!
