Charity quilt for the CWC. I can’t believe I forgot to use a 3/8” seam allowance to piece this. Now sewing the seam allowances down is taking way longer because I can’t use the edge of the foot as my guide. I’m having to eyeball it aiming for the middle of one side of the foot. And my lines are not as straight. I made the mistake of using a dark blue for my top thread when stitching the seam allowances down. Since i stitch from the back, have a light blue thread in the bobbin and the fabric is so thick, I didn’t think it would matter, but that dark thread really shows on the light fabrics, even after tightening the top tension. I’ve included a photo of the white square with pink flowers. you can see one side with dark blue top threads peeking through and on the other side I had switched to white top thread. Still making mistakes on these quilts. You’d think I’d have it down by now. 🤨 I used a Greek key pattern on this one. Too dense for a lap quilt but I wanted to practice the design and this was a good way to do it. Rita is so good at making straight vertical and horizontal lines that it was pretty easy to do without rulers. It’s almost like playing with an Etch a Sketch. I just got micro flex handles for Rita and this was the first thing I used them on. They feel very comfortable and I do feel like I have better control, although I have yet to use them for micro stippling, which is what they’re for. I found for the Greek key I can hold them very lightly, not even wrapping my thumbs around them. Batting is a half layer of Cloud Loft batting. Backing is cotton. Should’ve cut binding at 2 3/8”. 2 1/2” was too wide.
