I made my first quilt for the nursery prior to the birth of my first child which was in January 1979. I used the same set for the next two children. Made another for the fourth and felt like I had graduated to be able to purchase a new set for my last baby for a total of five kids. I picked up quilting again when my fourth grandchild came along and then had to hurry to catch up with the other three grands. I now have 20 grands and have made quilts for each and every one of them. I became a longarm quilter in 2012 when I bought my first Handi Quilter which was a Fusion 24”. I sold that machine in 2018 and bought an HQ Amara which is really perfect for me. I quit quilting for hire after paying off my Fusion and now I quilt only for love, for myself and others I love. For the last 3-4 years I’ve been struggling with walking and standing due to back pain and a newly discovered stress fracture so I am sincerely praying that the last injection I had in my spine and the boot I am wearing will help my body heal and allow me to heal. In the meantime I have made 7-8 tops that are waiting to be quilted. I’ll keep piecing until I heal because other than my family (most of which live pretty far away) my sewing room is my happy place. I turn 70 years old in August this year and I’m feeling like I have more fabric in my stash than I will ever be able to use in my lifetime. So I’ve got to just keep on quilting!!!
