I’m a quilter and lifelong creative from regional NSW, born into a family where making things has always been part of life. I’ve worked with textiles for as long as I can remember and have been quilting for almost as long. By day, I’m a Head Teacher in Special Education, with a busy family that includes my two now-grown children still at home and a bonus boy who is also grown but remains very much part of our family. As a quilter, I love colour, ambitious ideas and apparently making things unnecessarily difficult for myself. I have a habit of taking on slightly crazy projects—whether in scale, complexity, or by repeatedly choosing techniques I loudly proclaim to hate. I love gadgets, own far too many sewing machines, and yet do most of my daily sewing on my Nan’s much-loved Bernina 950. I also adore my longarm and will happily find any excuse to use it. Ultimately, I quilt because I need to create. It’s part of who I am, how I think, and how I connect with the generations of creative women who came before me. I think I was simply born to make things.
